LETTER TO A BULLY

 Chellis S. Jensen©

He called her a name and others joined in

She tripped him on purpose-he fell on his chin

I watched all this happen but spoke not a word

I should have said something

But

I was afraid

Of getting hurt

Of being bullied, too

Of calling attention to myself

I was afraid to care or interfere

What would happen if I got bullied?

I’d want someone to help me

Someone to stand beside/behind me

Someone to care, even a stranger

Someone to defend me

I ‘m a human being

I have worth and value

I have a right to life like you and everyone else

My name may be funny

I may look funny or am handicapped

I may talk funny

I may not be smart

I may be too smart

You may have picked on me just for no reason at all

BUT you are no better or worse than me

What do you know about me?

I KNOW YOU….

You like to feel important

You want attention

Do you think putting someone down or being tough and strong will get you friends?

Do you think putting someone down or being tough will make you important?

Do you think being a Bully makes you smart?
 It doesn't.

If you are really smart... stop doing hurtful and stupid things to other people.

You may try to hurt me or embarrass me, but the word is out.

Everyone is talking about you and you are no longer invisible or protected

Even the President of the United States knows about you

I am learning to be strong and there are others like me and we will be strong TOGETHER

There is still time to change, to come over to our side, to find a friend, to feel liked and appreciated

People will like you more for being kind, respectful, and thoughtful of others

You’ll never know… unless you try it!
